Millennium Restaurant
our comments
This upscale vegan restaurant moved from the Tenderloin area to Union Square. The new dining room is inside the very French Savoy Hotel. The black and white tiled floor, zinc bar with dark wood are balanced by the faux lizard and faux leather upholdetery and recycle chandeliers and curtains. Chef Eric Tucker draws meat-eaters and vegans with favorable reviews and curiosity. Starters include a warm spinach salad with smoked tofu instead of bacon. A small plates section of the menu includes a plate of wild mushrooms scented with sherry, cumin seeds and smoked paprika. . Entrées range from blood orange-glazed smoked tempeh matched with garlic grits, collard greens and caramelized onions to wine-braised chickpeas, tomatoes and apricots in a black pepper crêpe with grilled broccoli di Cicco. The wine list has been carefully chosen to match the unique menu. Desserts include fruit strudels and sorbets.- March 2005
